” …By grace ye are saved… and ” For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Eph. 2:5,8-9).
Note: Salvation is not of ourselves. It is the gift of God. It is not of works of the law of Moses or the works of man’s devising. If it was, man could boast about it!
Of course salvation is by grace but not by grace ONLY or by grace unconditionally! There are conditions that must be met!
Welcome Spices of life fans to Tell us plainly.
In our past articles, it was clearly shown that when teaching others, Jesus spoke plainly. ( See Jhon 10: 24-25).
It was also shown from the scriptures that Paul and Jhon spoke plainly, and that we should speak plainly.
In our past articles we raised 22 questions and answered them plainly according to the scriptures.
Let us resume our study with other questions answered plainly!
TELL US PLAINLY!
23. Does the book of psalms say to use instruments of muisc to praise God? If so, why do (CRS – editor of the instructor) teach that it is sinful for Christians to use mechanical instruments of muisc in the worship of God in the church today?
Answer yes, the book of psalms says to ”Praise the Lord with the harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings.
Sing unto him a new song; play skillfully with a loud noise; play skillfully with a loud song” ( Psa 33:2-3) and ”Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp.
Praise him with timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. Praise him with the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals” ( Psa 150:3-5).
Here are some of the reasons I teach that it is sinful for Christians to use mechanical instrumental muisc in worship of God.
(1) There are two primary or basic convenants, or testaments or laws, discussed in the scriptures.
They are the first conenant the seecond, the old and the new, the law of Moses and the law of Christ, etc.
(See Heb 8:6-13; 9:13-22; 10:1-30; Jhoshua 8:32 Ezra 7:6; Nehemiah 8:1; Gal 6:2;1 Cor 9:21 Jas 1:21-25 etc.
The old (First) testement is often referred to as ”the law” and the new ( second ) testement is referred to as ”truth and grace”, the gospel”, etc. ( See Jhon 1:17; Rom 7:4-7; Rom 1:16-17;2 Thess 1:6-10, etc.
The old conveant ( the law of Moses) was given by God through Moses to govern the fleshly children of Iseral. It was never given to govern the Gentiles as such.
It was not given as law to govern Christians! (See Deut 5:1-22,etc. Christians are ”under the law to christ” according to 1 cor 9:21.
(2) In this age (ie the gospel dispensation which began on the day of pentecost as recorded in Acts 2 and will continue until the ressurection of all the dead whic will occur at the end ( See 1 cor 15:20-28) the old testament is not our standard of authority in spiritual matters.
It was abrogated when Jesus died on the cross ( see col 2:14-17; Gal. 3:23-25; Rom. 4:4-7 etc The new Testment of Jesus Christ is our standard of authority in spiritual matters ( see Jno 12:48; 1 cor 9:21; Heb. 9:15-17; 10:9 Jas 2:12; Rom. 2:16, etc.
The things that were written in psalms and other parts of the old testement about mechanical instruments of muisc were not intended to guide Christians in this age.
Neither were the things that were written about annimal sacrifices, peace offerings, varous burnt offerings, burning incense, etc. They were intended for the Iserlites with whom God made the old convenant.
(3) We are told in the NT that we must abide ”in the doctrine of Christ” (see 2 Jno 9-11.) The doctrine of Christ does NOT authorize instrumental muisc in worship unto God! We dare NOT offer in worship to God that which He has NOT authorized in his word!
24. Is the book of psalms (as contained in the old testament scriptures) a part of the Jews Law? Answer: Yes, without question, the book of Psalms is a part of the Jews Law!
In Jhon 10:30-36 we read that ” the Jews took up stones” to stone Jesus after he said: ”I and my Father are one.” The Jews accused him of blasphemy because he, being a man, they said, made himself God.
We learn from Jhon 5:18 that Jesus had said ”that God was his Father, making himself equal with God. In verse 34-36 we read: ”Jesus answered them, It is not written in your law, I said. Ye are gods? If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken; say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemist; because I said, I am the son of God?”
NOTE THESE FACTS:
(1) Jesus was speaking to the Jews! Context plainly shows this.
(2) Jesus said the expression. ”I said ye are gods” is written in the Jews law!
(3) The only place you can find that expression written in psalms 82:6. It says: ”I have said, ye are gods: and all of you are children of the most High.”
(4) It is necessarily follows that the psalms are a part of the Jews law! If not, why not?
(5) Since we now live in the gospel age, we are not under the psalms or any part of the Jews law!
We are under the law of Christ ( Gal 6:2) It is a perfect law of liberty! ( See James 1:21-25.) Also see James 2:12.
(1) If we are under the teaching of the book of psalms, we should be offering annimal sacrifices, burnt offerings, incense, etc. according to psalms 20:3 50:7-8 and 66:1315
(2) If we are under the teaching of the book of psalms, we would be justified in the hating the enemies of God with the perfect hatered acoording to psalms 139:21-22
How could we reconcile the idea of ”hating” our enemies with the teaching of Jesus in such passages as Matt 5:43-45 and Luke 6:26-27, 35 and the teaching of the apostle Paul in Rom. 12:19-21? Or with Matt 7:12 and Luke 6:31?
A serious consideration of questions23 and 24 as we have given in this issue of ”The instructor” should impress upon each of us the need to ”study” or ”give dilligence” (ASV) to be approved unto God, a work man that needeth not to be asahamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (2 Tim 2:15)
JESUS CHRIST IS OUR PATTERN (NO.1)
IN our study last month we learned that Jesus Christ is our example, ie, our model, our pattern!
Jesus Christ (1) did not sin (2) no deceit was found in His mouth, (3) When He was reviled, He reviled not again, and (4) when He suffered He thretened not. ( See 1 pet 2:21 25)
Yes, without question the NT teaches that Jesus Christ is our pattern! We should pattern our lives after the life of Christ as set forth in the NT.
Let us resume our study. JESUS CHRIST IS OUR PATTERN! 5. JESUS DID NOT COME TO DO HIS OWN WILL BUT THE WILL OF THE FATHER WHO SENT HIM!
In Jhon 6:38 Jesus said: ”For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.” In Jhon 4:34 Jesus said.” My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work” and in Jhon 5:30 he said” I seek not mine but the will of the Father which sent me.”
Without question the NT teaches that Jesus Christ is our pattern in doing the Father’s will!
In fact Jesus declared in Matt 7:21 that ”Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven.”
Here Jesus clearly teaches us that obeying the will of God is essential to entering into the kingdom of heaven!
Of course, many of the aposates among us who have joined denominationalism in their thinking and teaching would say that this teaching is ”legalism”!
Was Jesus Christ a legalism Question was Jesus Christ a legalist because he taught this? Remember Jesus is our pattern!
The apostates who claim that Jesus Christ is their pattern, but deny that doing or obeying the will of God iS ESSENTIAL to entering into the kingdom of heaven are like the pharisees who drew near near to God with their mouth and honoured Him with their lips but their heart was far from him.
They worshipped God in vain, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men! They were hypocrites! ( See Matt 15: 1-9 )
What was the attitude of Jesus toward the commandments of God? He said: ”as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do.”
( Jhon 14:31) In Jhon 8:29b Jesus said: ”for I do those things always that please him>” (Also see Rom 15:3) What is your attitude toward the commandments of God?
Some of the apostles we know of such as Al Maxey, Edward Fudge, Max Lucado etc talk out of both sides of their mouths! They, like many other false teachers, practice duplicity in an effort to mislead unwary bretheren and others!
JESUS CHRIST IS OUR PATTERN
They claim that they believe Jesus is their pattern, but they do not follow Jesus Christ as their pattern! In actions they clearly betray their claim!
Remember Jesus wanted:” Beware of the false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits.” (Matt 7:15-16; also see 1 Thess 5:21; Rev 2:2; 1 Jhon 4:1; Acts 20:29-32; 1 Tim 4:1;2 Pet 2:1-3 etc.
Jesus Christ is our pattern in doing the Father’s will! We should folow his example! He sought to always please the Father! So should we. He is our pattern! But according to the teaching of the apostates Jesus would be a legalist.
They would abhor the idea of being a legalist by following Jesus as their pattern. Neither do they accept Jesus as their pattern in their teaching as to what is essential to entering into the kingdom of heaven! Read Matt 7:21 again and be impressed with what Jesus said:” Not every one that saith unto me, Lord Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.”
The above mentioned apostates do Not take Jesus as their pattern in teaching what He taught in the passage!
They do NOT believe that alien sinners MUST DO ANYTHING in order to enter into the kingdom of heaven! They are teachers of FALSE doctrines!
Jesus warned of false teachers! He is our pattern! We, too, should warn others of false teachers! Jesus Christ is our pattern!
Is Jesus Christ your pattern in reality? He should be!
